The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences recognized new faculty hires for 2008-2009 at the Fall Faculty Reception on Sept. 30.
The administration, faculty, and staff of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences welcome new faculty hires for the 2008-2009 school year. These 24 new faculty members were recognized at the Fall Faculty Reception on Sept. 30.
New hires for the college are:
Dr. Alan Sams, Professor and Executive Associate Dean
Dr. James Heird, Executive Professor
In addition, Dr. John (Jack) Elliot has joined the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications as Professor and Head; and Dr. Leland (Sandy) Pierson is Professor and new Head of the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology.
The Department of Agricultural Economics has hired three new faculty members:
Dr. Lindsey Higgins, Instructional Assistant Professor
Dr. Ariun Ishdorj, Assistant Professor
Dr. Joshua D. Woodard, Assistant Professor
In addition to the new department head, the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications has hired three new faculty members:
Dr. Theresa Murphrey, Assistant Professor
Dr. Traci Naile, Assistant Professor
Dr. John Rayfield, Assistant Professor
The Department of Animal Science has hired Dr. David Riley, Associate Professor.
The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics has hired four new faculty members:
Dr. Margaret Glasner, Assistant Professor
Dr. Ping He, Assistant Professor
Dr. Craig Kaplan, Assistant Professor
Dr. Hays Rye, Associate Professor
The Department of Entomology has hired two new faculty members:
Dr. Cecilia Tamborindeguy, Assistant Professor
Dr. Aaron M. Tarone, Assistant Professor
The Department of Horticultural Sciences has hired two new faculty members:
Dr. Patricia Klein, Associate Professor
Dr. Elizabeth Pierson, Associate Professor
In addition to the new faculty head, the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology has hired Dr. Libo Shan, Assistant Professor.
The Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences has hired Dr. Michael Edwards, Assistant Professor.
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences has hired Dr. Russell Jessup, Assistant Professor.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences has hired two new faculty members:
Dr. Masami Fujiwara, Assistant Professor
Dr. Jessica Light, Assistant Professor

With an enrollment of almost 6,700 students in 14 academic departments, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees and has a faculty of nearly 400 members, including two Nobel laureates. Research programs include food sustainability and safety, human and animal health, genetics, renewable natural resources and bioenergy. Mark Hussey is Vice Chancellor and Dean.
