The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences announced its faculty promotions at the 2009 Fall Faculty Reception on Sept. 30.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences honored 20 faculty members who have been promoted in the last year at the 2009 Fall Faculty Reception on Sept. 30. Executive Associate Dean Alan Sams began the awards by noting the value of faculty members. “Teaching is at the heart of our college’s mission,” he said.

Promotions for the college are:

Dr. Mark Hussey, Vice Chancellor and Dean for Agriculture and Life Sciences
Dr. David Reed, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Faculty Development
Dr. Chris Skaggs, Associate Dean for Student Development
In addition, Dr. Jimmy Keeton was promoted to Professor and Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science.

The Department of Agricultural Economics promoted three faculty members:

Dr. John Robinson, Professor and Extension Specialist
Dr. Dmitry Vedenov, Associate Professor with Tenure
Dr. Ximing Wu, Associate Professor with Tenure

The Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications promoted Dr. Gary J. Wingenbach, Professor (Tenured).

The Department of Animal Science promoted three faculty members:

Dr. Jason Cleere, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist
Dr. Jason E. Sawyer, Associate Professor with Tenure
Dr. Thomas Spencer, Professor (Tenured)

The Department of Ecosystem Science and Management promoted two faculty members:

Dr. Russell A. Feagin, Visiting Associate Professor
Dr. Sorin C. Popescu, Associate Professor with Tenure

The Department of Entomology promoted Dr. Patricia V. Pietrantonio, Professor (Tenured).

The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology promoted two faculty members:

Dr. Brian D. Shaw, Associate Professor with Tenure
Dr. Won-Bo Shim, Associate Professor with Tenure

The Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences promoted Dr. Amanda Stronza, Associate Professor with Tenure.

The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences promoted two faculty members:

Dr. Scott A. Finlayson, Associate Professor with Tenure
Dr. Dirk B. Hays, Associate Professor with Tenure

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences promoted Dr. James C. Cathey, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist.

With an enrollment of almost 6,700 students in 14 academic departments, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees and has a faculty of nearly 400 members, including two Nobel laureates.
