COLLEGE STATION—Three long-time College of Agriculture and Life Sciences staff members have been named recipients of the 2008 President’s Meritorious Service Awards. The honor was announced by Texas A&M University President Dr. Elsa Murano.

Robert A. Jensen, business coordinator II, and Mark Wright, senior lead micro/LAN administrator, both in the department of entomology, and Cheryl Yeager, academic business administrator in the department of ecosystem science and management, were among 25 recipients from across the campus.

Jensen, who has worked for Texas A&M for 22 years, was nominated by Roberta Priesmeyer.

“The department accounting section has been recognized by Texas A&M University and Texas AgriLife Research as one of the top departments, and it is due, in no small part, to Robert Jensen,” said Priesmeyer, who is a business administrator II in the department of entomology.
Wright, a Texas A&M employee for 23 years, was nominated by Dr. Kevin Heinz.

“Mark always demonstrates a calm and professional competency while exhibiting an unrelenting sense of dedication and commitment,” said Heinz, professor and head of the department of entomology. “His accomplishments are remarkable, widespread and lasting.”
Yeager has worked for the university for 14 years. She was nominated by Dr. Steve Whisenant.

“Cheryl is the ‘go to’ person for faculty, staff and students,” said Whisenant, professor and department head of ecosystem science and management. “Regardless of the situation or issue to be resolved, she develops an appropriate and effective response... She provides exceptional service to ESSM faculty, staff, and students.”

Since 1986, the President's Meritorious Service Awards have been presented to individual employees and teams in recognition of meritorious service to the university. Nominations are called for during September; recipients are chosen by an anonymous committee appointed by the president.
