Bazer 'Grand Slams' Professional Awards

COLLEGE STATION -–Fuller Bazer, Ph.D., a distinguished professor in Texas A&M University’s Department of Animal Science, is the first-ever individual to be the recipient of all four major awards given by the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR)

The society named him as the recipient of the 2009 Trainee Mentoring Award, at the organization’s 42nd annual meeting held July 18-22, 2009 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

With the mentoring award, Bazer became the first member of the society to win all four of the organization’s top scientist awards, including the Carl G. Hartman Award, the SSR Research Award and the SSR Distinguished Service Award.

The Trainee Mentoring Award is presented to an SSR member who has had significant impact on trainees within the society and has excelled academic advisor, becoming a mentor to those with whom they interact.

According to the meeting brochure, “Dr. Bazer has been and continues to be committed to mentoring young scientists, providing leadership to the scientific community, and supporting his current and former trainees throughout his career. Therefore, Dr. Bazer is most deserving of the SSR Trainee Mentoring Award.”

Bazer is a member of the Department of Animal Science faculty, a Regents Fellow, a Distinguished Professor, O.D. Butler Chairholder and current interim head for the department of veterinary pathobiology.

Bazer has produced more than 400 scientific articles, reviews, and book chapters involving partnerships with more than 90 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
