COLLEGE STATION--David Matarrita, Ph.D., assistant professor of rural sociology in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, a part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University, will speak on “Saving the World, One Community at a Time: The Role of Community Development in a Globalizing World.” His presentation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Room 126 at the Kleberg Center on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station.
Matarrita earned his bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics from the University of Costa Rica, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in rural sociology from The Pennsylvania State
University. His academic studies focus on natural resource sociology and communities. He is studying the interrelationship between communities and natural resources and the role local participation plays in community development efforts.
The presentation is part of the CommUnity Conversations Series sponsored by the Texas A&M Department of Multicultural Services and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. According to the organizers, the CommUnity Conversations give students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to learn about diversity issues and how they affect Texas A&M.
