Jasper Shaw is a first-generation Aggie and a junior at Texas A&M University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics with a concentration in Policy and Economic Analysis and a minor in American Politics and Policy. A fourth-generation agriculturist from Garrison, Texas, Jasper grew up immersed in his family’s poultry, crop, and cattle operations, where he developed a deep appreciation for the intersection of agriculture and policy.
At Texas A&M, Jasper serves as an Ambassador for Aggie REPS, the Department of Agricultural Economics’ premier leadership organization, helping to facilitate events, guide prospective student tours, and promote student engagement. He also represents over 400 student bus drivers as a member of the Transit Employee Advisory Council, advocating for employee interests and contributing to workplace improvements.
Jasper works as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, where he supports instruction for the SCSC 201: American Agriculture course. Additionally, he serves as a Student Bus Driver for Texas A&M Transportation Services, safely operating AggieSpirit buses and providing accessibility support through Paratransit services.
A recipient of the American FFA Degree, Jasper’s agricultural experience includes managing poultry, cattle, and crop production on his family’s farm. His passion for agricultural policy is rooted in his desire to represent farmers and rural communities through thoughtful and effective policymaking. He hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the policy-making process to one day pursue a master’s degree and return to Washington, D.C. to serve as a policymaker advancing the interests of American agriculture.
This spring, Jasper is interning in Washington, D.C. with The Fertilizer Institute, where he is eager to apply his agricultural background and policy knowledge to support the organization’s mission of nourishing the world responsibly through sustainable and science-based solutions.
