Betsy Tovar recently graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness and a minor in Agricultural Economics. Growing up on a small farm in Northeast Texas and actively participating in FFA throughout high school fueled her passion for serving the agricultural industry and deepened her appreciation for its vital role in supporting families, rural communities, and the broader economy. These experiences ultimately sparked her interest in advocating for policies that protect and strengthen small farmers.
During her time at Texas A&M, Betsy was both a Terry Scholar and a Cargill Thrive Scholar and received an Excellence in Academics and Leadership Award from the Department of Agricultural Economics. She served as Co-Chair of the Aggie REPs Ambassador Committee and was actively involved in the Hispanic Presidents’ Council and Aggie BSM, where she developed leadership skills while supporting fellow students. She also participated in a study abroad agribusiness program in Scotland and gained professional experience through a summer internship with the National Women in Agriculture Association. As a member of the Agricultural Economics Honors Program, she had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. through the Texas A&M Agriculture and Food Policy Center, an experience that further solidified her interest in agricultural policy at the federal level.
This summer, Betsy is interning with the USA Rice Federation. Through this internship, she hopes to gain hands-on experience in agricultural policy and advocacy while further developing the skills needed to serve and represent agricultural producers.
