Elena Gwartney
Office of Congressman Frank Lucas
Elena Gwartney is a senior at Texas A&M University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics with a concentration in Policy and Economic Analysis. She is from Coupland, Texas, and is interested in how agriculture, policy, and finance connect to support producers, businesses, and rural communities.
At Texas A&M, Elena worked as a student assistant in the Student Organization Finance Center, where she helped student organizations with reimbursements, funding processes, financial documentation, and daily office operations. Working with a wide range of student groups strengthened her communication and problem-solving skills while giving her a better understanding of how financial processes support organizations.
During the summer of 2026, Elena interned with the Meat Institute in Arlington, Virginia, as a Government Affairs Intern. In this role, she supported policy and legislative work related to the meat and poultry industries, including researching legislation and helping prepare materials used to communicate industry priorities. This experience gave her a closer look at federal agricultural policy and strengthened her interest in advocacy.
Elena is interning with the Office of Congressman Frank Lucas from Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District in Washington, D.C., where she is continuing to learn about agricultural policy and the role it plays in the food and agriculture industry. She hopes to build a career that combines agricultural economics, policy, and financial decision-making while supporting the people and businesses that keep the agriculture industry moving.
