Howdy! My name is Morgan Marshall and I am a sophomore Animal Science major here at Texas A&M. My dream has always been to go to vet school here but I never thought that I would develop an interest in exotic animal conservation medicine! Because of this new found passion I decided that I needed to find a way to better explore and immerse myself in the unknown world of conservation, so that I could better see if it was the right fit for me. This is where studying abroad changed my world. Summer 2016 I traveled with the Environmental Systems and Science Management department (or ESSM) to South Africa for a month long Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism field intensive, faculty lead study abroad. My experience in Africa not only taught me that conservation is a vital responsibility I have but also the importance of conserving not only the animals that I love, but all parts of the Environment. I learned to look at the world through a fresh lens and I think that it has forever changed me for the better. I think that engaging yourself in a whole new culture and mode of thinking is vital to the college experience and I hope to help others find that opportunity that I have in studying abroad.
