For those unable to attend in person, please return to this page Friday, July 16 at 2 p.m. CT for the event live stream.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Joe Townsend, known as “Dr. Joe” to many students, served as associate vice president for student development and as associate dean for student development, in addition to teaching in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He touched the lives of countless current and former students, often helping them become leaders in agriculture.
To pay tribute to Dr. Joe and the legacy he left on Aggieland as a beloved teacher, mentor, colleague and friend—we invite you to join us for a celebration of life on Friday, July 16 at 2 p.m. CT. The event will be held at the Shirley and Joe Swinbank ’74 AgriLife Center. Parking will be available in Lot 100C. For those unable to join us in person, the event will also be streamed live. You can return to this page on the day of the event, to virtually celebrate Dr. Joe with us.
To help with preparations, please RSVP if you plan to attend.
Thousands have shared stories about Dr. Joe, his character and the impact that he had on their life. To help us share in the joy that he spread and celebrate his life, we invite you to sign our virtual guestbook. Please share any stories, testaments or anecdotes you have about Dr. Joe and your time with him. We also have space for you to upload photos if you have any you’d like to share with the family.
Dr. Joe Townsend ’67 ALEC Leadership Fellows Endowment
Dr. Joe’s career culminated with the establishment of the Dr. Joe Townsend ’67 Leadership Fellows Program in 2008, which supports the advancement of undergraduate study in leadership theory through the activities of a select cohort of students. The Leadership Fellows Program is a prestigious, rigorous, and unique environment where selected students enhance their leadership skills in an arena – beyond the university — that supports the fellows’ trials, errors, and successes. Funds for this program are supported through an endowment, named for Dr. Joe, used to enhance student learning and advance undergraduate study in leadership.
To give in honor of Dr. Joe and continue impacting the lives of students, you can give online to the Dr. Joe D. Townsend ’67 ALEC Leadership Fellows Program Endowment or contact Trace Roller ’00 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
