Gonzalez ’29, David

David Gonzalez '29

Major:  Food Science and Technology
Minor:  Nutrition
Hometown:  Laredo, Texas

Biography

Before graduating high school, David Gonzalez ’29 earned both an associate’s degree in science and a certificate in networking fundamentals through an early college program. He held a leadership role in his high school’s marching band for three years and served as band president during his senior year. David was in a variety of honor programs, such as the National Honor Society, National STEM Honor Society and his local college’s dean’s list. David graduated summa cum laude from Laredo College and was the valedictorian of Cigarroa High School.

David found his passion for food science while working as an intern for his local school district’s Child Nutrition Program. David aims to earn a master of science degree in food science and technology and then work at NASA to enhance food diversity. He believes everyone gets a little homesick, especially astronauts, so he plans to give them a taste of home through culturally appropriate meals. After accomplishing such, David has bigger plans of reshaping the food industry and giving back to his community.

Apart from academics, David loves to write poetry in his free time and dreams of writing a world-renowned science fiction novel series. He loves science fiction, adventure and fantasy books and movies where imagination is boundless. David was a percussionist in high school and adores music. He has yet to find a hobby in music, but he wishes to join an alternative/pop rock band like Coldplay.

David admires the Dean’s Excellence Scholarship program for their aid in helping young, ambitious students such as himself succeed in numerous ways. He emphasizes that financial aid, networking and a sense of community are vital keys to the most efficient time in higher education, which the Dean’s Excellence Scholarship program offers in abundance.
