Biography
Emma Malkowski ’29 has been a lover of the outdoors for as long as she can remember. From month-long family retreats in the Appalachian Mountains to biking through the Rockies or exploring Sedona’s vast hiking scene, Emma relishes any and every opportunity to abandon air-conditioned spaces and seek out a tree to hug.
While her interest in nature has its roots in recreation, over the years it has matured into a deep gratitude for all the intricate systems that make this world ripe for life. Ever since spending a day on a small, family-operated regenerative farm in the fourth grade, Emma has been especially fascinated with holistic agriculture. She believes agriculture has the power to support vibrant, healthy lives across the globe while preserving and optimizing the natural resources on which it depends. It is this belief that prompted her to write and deliver her senior thesis, a 20-minute oral presentation committed to memory followed by a 20-minute Q&A defense, on the importance of agricultural development in the modern world.
In the hopes of practicing what she has preached, Emma plans to study agricultural and biological engineering. She is also a member of the soil and crop sciences honors cohort. In her free time, Emma enjoys reading, cooking, grocery shopping, running, biking and continuing to explore the outdoors.
