Agricultural Economics is the study of the globalization of agriculture systems, new technologies, applied economics and economic logic to develop technical skills to analyze and communicate about agriculture, food, management and resource issues. Our students are trained for a wide variety of careers in agricultural and non-agricultural businesses.
Students in the Finance and Real Estate option will develop in-depth knowledge of how loans are made, how land is valued and how it is transacted. Students design their plan of study to reflect their future goals and will graduate with a strong background in finance, real estate, accounting and management.
The Financial Planning option focuses specifically on holistic financial planning, which involves managing household short- and long-term financial goals across various areas such as risk management, insurance, investments, retirement, household taxation, estate and retirement planning. The curriculum will leverage educational programs across Texas A&M in sales, entrepreneurship, agricultural economics and agribusiness – all of which are critical to success in the financial planning profession and specialization needed to meet the unique needs of the state of Texas.
Students choosing the Food Marketing Systems option will develop an in-depth knowledge of how food is priced, traded, and sold in both the U.S. and abroad. Our students develop a strong background in agribusiness management, international agricultural issues, food sales and food marketing.
The Policy and Economic Analysis option provides students with an understanding of what being involved in research, the legal profession, and the government entails. With guidance from the faculty and staff advisors, students will design their plan of study to reflect their future goals through the incorporation of higher-level electives outside the department.
The Rural Entrepreneurship option integrates the technical skills required of involvement in the rural business industry with application-based experience provided by the program’s capstone course. Students will design a plan of study reflecting their future goals and will develop a strong background in economics, accounting, management, finance and policy. During the final year of study, each student will incorporate the interdisicplinary background gained into the development of. Business plan for a business of their choice.
