Biography
Benjamin Cessnun ’28 was born in Texas but raised halfway across the world, in Uganda. He loved it there, making many amazing memories as he interacted with other kids. During his last summers there, he worked in the laboratory of the hospital his dad was helping to open. Besides learning about laboratory equipment, he learned about many tropical diseases. One of his favorite memories was seeing the malaria parasite under a microscope.
Upon returning to Texas, Benjamin and his family began to repair and build up the family farm his grandparents lived on. During these summers, he and his siblings worked on the farm, fixing fences, feeding cows, clearing mesquite or making hay. During the school year, Benjamin was a varsity player for his six-man football team in Waco and captain his senior year. He was also the 4-H sharpshooter president in his area.
In a family of 11 kids, finances are tight before college tuition. Ben is the third Cessnun at Texas A&M right now. The Dean’s Excellence Scholarship helps Benjamin in more ways than he can count, especially by easing the financial burden college can bring. It allows him to focus on school, knowing the scholarship is providing financial relief for his family. This scholarship has allowed Benjamin to pursue goals such as being in the Corps of Cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, and eventually going to medical school.
