No Grade Information and Process
Student Rule 10.3 defines a No Grade (NG) as the “Administrative removal of posted grades requires approval by the Dean or designee of the college in which the student was enrolled during the semester in which the courses were taken. A NG requires extensive documentation of the extraordinary circumstances justifying the No Grade. The instructor of record, or the instructor’s department head if the instructor is unavailable, will be consulted during the process. The registrar will, if possible, notify the instructor of record, and in any event will notify the instructor’s department head, whenever a NG is issued.” In addition, the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s policy for undergraduate requests is that if approved, a NG will be assigned for ALL courses taken during the semester.
Undergraduate No Grade Requests
In order to have a NG reviewed, you must:
- Be able to identify the extraordinary circumstances that negatively impacted your grades in a specific semester (e.g. Fall 2010, etc.)
- Show how the extraordinary circumstances were resolved (e.g. counseling, medical treatment, resolution of legal issues, etc.).
- Demonstrated that the extraordinary circumstances have been resolved through subsequent semesters of academic and/or professional success.
The Undergraduate No Grade Request Form can be accessed by clicking here: Undergraduate No Grade Request Form. Requests for undergraduate no grades must be submitted in writing to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mary Bryk. Please note: Requests will not be accepted via email. However, if you would like to submit your request electronically, please contact Reid Stavinoha at [email protected] for information on that process.
No Grade requests are reviewed by an appointed committee of faculty representatives from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The committee meets once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester. They meet on a needs basis in the summer semester. In the instance where the due date falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the following Monday (example: June 1 occurs on a Saturday, so the due date will be Monday, June 3).
Due dates for No Grade requests to be submitted are:
- For the fall semester committee meeting: October 1
- For the spring semester committee meeting: February 1
- All summer requests: June 1
